Playbook Notes: The Sharks are first and foremost a passing team. The above assortment of short passes attack different areas of the defense, creating mismatches and exploiting weaknesses in the passing game. If the defense begins to key on the short game, a few long passes are thrown in to net big yardage and make the defense think twice about its coverages.
The Sharks can (and will) run the ball on occasion to throw the defense off-balance and earn cheap yards. Trap Right is the key run play as it calls on the second running back (Mike Alstott in this instance) and attacks secondary defensive players (DL#2's and LB#2's).
The use of only two formations, with a possiblity of all types of runs and passes in each, makes it even more difficult for defenses to pick up on play calling tendencies.

Playbook Notes: The 4-3 is the base defensive alignment for the Sharks. The defensive play selection is plentiful and varied to deal with a multitude of offensive threats. Strong Front is the default run stop play for the defense and works well in most situations. Short Zone and Man-Zone are solid all-around versus any short pass (including those to running backs and tight ends) and Man-To-Man makes use of the secondary's strong coverage skills. Verus a pass-happy team or if the opponent needs a quick score, the nickel packages are excellent and can produce sacks and interceptions with some regularity.
Strategy Deck (28 cards)
Tuck The Ball In x3
Air It Out x4
Long Routes x2
Shrug Them Off x2
Stuff x3
Coverage Sack x4
Deep Coverage x4
Force Fumble x2
Blown Route x4
Strategy Deck Notes: Air It Out and Long Routes enhance the passing game (making it explosive at times), while Tuck The Ball In can give the offense balance and force oponents to think twice. Shrug Them Off gives the Sharks a couple of options for offensive explosiveness. The defense is aided by Stuffs and Coverage Sacks. Deep Coverage allows the defense to defend against the run and not worry about the defense ripping off a huge pass play. It is also effective versus opponents who use Big Play on a pass. Since the defense is strong versus the pass, four Blown Routes are included, along with two Force Fumbles.
Performance History
Although not a lot of points are invested in the offense, the team can score when it needs to. It has proven proficient in moving the ball and scoring in the two-minute offense (moving the ball after the two-minute warning). The defense does allow a few points, but it also generates turnovers and sacks ensuring the offense gets back onto the field.
This team had a streak of five consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, winning four of them. The team has won 16 of its last 23 contests (scores 21-10, 26-6, 26-0, 28-14, 20-21, 14-0, 10-7, 31-0, 10-13, 7-15, 24-9, 10-14, 21-10, 6-0, 14-0, 17-0, 17-7, 7-0, 3-3 (OT), 16-0, 10-0, 0-8, 0-7; Sharks 338, Opponents 144).
The Sharks currently hold the records in our playgroup for most points scored in a game and largest margin of victory (31).
Record (last 23 games): 16 wins, 6 losses, 1 tie.
Average Results: Sharks 14.7, Opponents 6.3.
Since the inception of the 28 card strategy deck the Sharks are 2-2 (scores 24-14, 10-17, 7-17, 17-7).

Playbook Notes: 5-2 is the base defensive package. Stay Home is sufficient run defense against most run plays. Short Zone is an effective default defense when the offense could call either run or pass. When you know a pass is coming, Two-Deep Zone is excellent for forcing turnovers.
The 3-4 is a recent addition to the defensive playbook, making use of the upgraded linebacker position and better defense of passes.

Tuck The Ball In x4
Spin Move x4
Force Of Will x4
Air It Out x2
Stuff x3
Coverage Sack x2
Aggressive Coverage x3
Force Fumble x4
Blown Route x2
Strategy Deck Notes: The majority of the deck is comprised of cards to further bulster the running game (Tuck thr Ball In, Spin Move, Force Of Will). Force Of Will and Robert Smith's power on run plays significantly decreases the chance of turning the ball over.
Defensively, since the defense is stacked well versus the run, Aggressive Coverage is included to further hinder an opposing offense. While this defense may give up yards here and there, it always strives to force turnovers.
Performance History
The revamped Mammoths are 2-2 in four games (7-0, 0-7, 0-19, 10-3).
Since the inception of the 28 card strategy deck, the Mammoths are 4-0-1 (scores 17-15, 14-14 (no OT), 24-6, 7-3, 14-7).

Team Description
Chris says...this team is designed around two concepts-defense and ball control. There are two cards that negate big gains-Deep Coverage and Stuff. There are two cards that improve field position-Aggressive Coverage and Coverage Sack. There is one card to control players, that's Trick Play. There are three cards that cause turnovers. There are four cards which provide extra yardage for the offense. There are 5 runs outside, 4 runs inside, 4 short passes, and 2 long passes. Defensively, there are 3 plays to stop the run outside, 3 playes to stop the run inside, 1 play to stop the short pass, and 3 plays to stop the long pass. The offense is designed around an average quarterback, two good running backs, adequate wide receivers and tight ends, and a strong run blocking offensive line. The defense has a dominant #1 defensive lineman, linebackers who are quick; one is good against the pass, the other against the run. The secondary is based on a suffocating corner and a solid safety, both have 15+ coverage stats which allows for Coverage sack to be played. The team is capped off with a low cost kicker to provide better chances at field goals than the default (play mat) kicker.
Strategy
Chris says...since both running backs are good all-around, they can exploit the weaknesses of the defensive front, able to run inside and outside. The passing plays are there to keep the defense off balance. The key for the defense is to provide pressure on the quarterback and use the excellent secondary to get interceptions. Since most of the players have fairly high Power stats, there is a good chance that Force Fumble can be played.
Performance History
Chris says...I finally put "Somebody Hit Somebody" to the test and
won with the whopping score of 3-0. The deck just ate clock.

Ryan S says...I run a Showdown league for a Washington state WotC. I have used several different teams and have a combined record of 15-1. (This team) was put together for my wife so I could play-test some house rules before league started. She never used it so I tried it out in open play. Its record is 11-0.
I run a 3-Wide and Shotgun One-Back offense. I use 11 offensive plays and 9 defensive. Fiedler has a QB rating over 115.
I recently revamped the team to help shore up some defensive weaknesses but have not used it in league play yet.

ANTEATERS
Owner/Coach: Observer
Team Overview: Observer says...the objective of the team is to win using a balance mixture of players and plays.
The Team (4995 total points):
QB#1 Jeff Garcia...(520 13/15/16/15)
RB#1 Mike Anderson...(670 16/14/13/15)

K Al Del Greco...(140 3/4/8/6)
KR/QB#2 Akili Smith...(15 12/14/12/12)
On Offense:
Observer says... The Anteaters are effective using both run and pass plays. Anderson and Thrash are both good at getting short yardage, while Garcia can surprise the opponent with long lobs of his own. Key plays include Shovel Pass Right for the outside run, and Short Pass and Quick Outs for the short pass.
On Defense:
Observer adds...the emphasis is pass defense with high powered
players. The defensive strategy is to bend but not break. Allow the little yardage but keep the opponent from making a big play. Strahan and Simmons are more than adequate against the short pass, while the Williams-Walker combo has shut down the long pass extremely well. Key defensive plays here are Eagle Zone Cover for end-game protection, Fallback LB Zone against the short pass plays, and Corner Blitz against the run plays. While weak to an effective running team, the power of the DLs and LBs frequently force key turnovers when they are needed.
Performance History:
Observer says...the Anteaters were retired at 15-0, an undefeated season. They scored an average of 30 points per game while allowing just 9.2 yards.
